Next Big Thing
What is the Next Big Thing?
I/ITSEC Next Big Thing (NBT) focuses on emerging trends, issues and technologies that are poised to disrupt the modeling, simulation and training community in different time horizons. We look for nascent and novel technologies and applications at low TRLs and discuss how to accelerate the adoption or implementation at scale by our I/ITSEC community, helping organizations (government, industry, academia) realize high value from rapidly evolving technology and keep ahead of future opportunities.
Event Format
This year, the I/ITSEC NBT program will feature three distinct session types:
- TED-style talks. A 25 min total (inclusive of Q&A) individual presentation
- Moderated discussions. A 50 min total (inclusive of audience Q&A) moderated discussion for 2 or more participants (not including the moderator)
- Unscripted town halls / interviews. A 25 or 50 min total session with active audience participation.
Individual sessions will occur throughout the conference, with presentations taking place in the OCCC Destination Lounge, a technology-enhanced collaboration center.
Call for Proposals
We invite the community to submit proposals for NBT presentations at this year’s I/ITSEC conference. Submissions can propose for one of the three formats listed above. We are interested in topics relevant to the MS&T community in the following areas:
- New or emerging technologies, concepts or issues impacting the MS&T community (e.g.: 2030 issues and possible solutions)
- Potential applications of existing technologies and their impact (e.g.: novel usage of high-TRL technologies in new contexts or problems)
- Catalysts to adoption, success factors or accelerants to adoption. (e.g.: moving across the “valley of death” towards mission adoption and scaled deployment)
Proposers are required to create and submit a 2-minute video recording of your “pitch” as part of your submission. In this video, you will discuss what you want to cover, how you plan to cover and why it matters to the audience in the context of this call for proposals: There is no need here for a major production, just record it with your smartphone and upload it to the submission site.
Please note that we are specifically interested in “what’s next” as opposed to “what’s now,” and proposals will be heavily weighted by this criteria.
Proposal Timeline
Call for abstracts opens: 20 April
Submission due date: 27 June
Notification of selection/non-selection: 31 July
Interested?
Submit proposals online by 27 June. If you have questions, please contact the NBT leadership:
